Kinsalebeg GFC was formed in early 1885 making it one of the country's very first GAA Clubs, hence this year 2010 is the 125th anniversary of our club's  involvement with the Gaelic Athletic Association which is indeed a fact which makes us immensely proud. To mark this fantastic year we have some very exciting events lined up for the August Bank Holiday weekend, mostly ones which will tie in with the completion of our new Clubhouse in the next few weeks, which in itself is a fine tribute to the many men and women who have gone before us and made this club what it is today. It is important to celebrate a tradition as deep as our club's and we will now have the club facilities to match our heritage and meet our ambitions. Below is a rundown of the weekend's events...

What a great time was had by all in the parish over the past weekend as Clashmore/Kinsalebeg GAA Club celebrated their 125th Anniversary with a series of exciting events. Proceedings began on Saturday evening with a Club Long Puck which ran over a two mile course from Piltown Hall down to the Ferrypoint and we had a superb turnout for this with 18 teams of three taking part and I think everyone agreed that it was good fun and a great way to get out and about, especially for the kids. When all the scorecards were taken in it was a team captained by the one and only Patsy Collins along with son Danny Collins and Declan Long on a score of 53 strokes who won the day.
Then onto Sunday and first and foremost we were blessed with the weather which was beautiful for most of the day and it was great to see such a huge turnout at the Club Field. The Clubhouse Development committee have to be highly commended on the superb work which was done in the last few weeks to get the field and clubhouse looking as well as it did yesterday. So events began at 2pm with the Adult Parish Leagues which was played between five teams from the parish and some very competitive games were witnessed here, with the final of this being played later in the day at 6pm and with the Ballinamultina/Ballycurrane teams emerging victorious after winning it on a penalty shootout by 1 goal to nil so well done and thank you to all participants in this well-organised Parish League.
We then had a novelty game between our U16 boys and our Junior Ladies which saw some very good scores on both sides, followed by our U8's, U10's and U12 boys and girls who took to the field to play some mixed games and I have to say it was great to see all of our up-and-coming starlets showing off their great skills for their age which is a testament to those who are putting in such hard work in the juvenile coaching side of things within the club.
At 4pm our chefs got the Barbecue going and I think everyone will agree that the catering was superb on the day, with tea and sandwiches to be had in our new meeting room also so everyone seemed to go away happy in this regard. The kids were kept entertained all the while by our super face-painters, face-paint which was washed off quite quickly later on when we had floods of volunteers to stick their head under the bucket in the target game which proved to be brilliant fun!
One of the highlights of the day then proceeded which was the unveiling of our 125th Anniversary plaque by County Chairman Tom Cunningham in our brand new meeting room and we want to sincerely thank Tom for coming along and speaking so well about the club also. This was quickly followed by the arrival of County Hurling Manager Davy Fitzgerald, selector Pat Bennett and Captain Stephen Molumphy with the Munster Cup who kept kids and parents alike entertained as they stood for photos and met everyone who wanted a chat with them and we want to say that we very much appreciate their coming down to us because we know they had an extremely busy schedule over the weekend.
Then I suppose what turned out to be the really big success of the weekend concluded the day in the shape of our Legend's Game between past players from Clashmore and Kinsalebeg. The two teams, who were decked out in Red for Clashmore and Green for Kinsalebeg, were marched onto the pitch by a lone Piper who then played our national anthem for the huge crowd present to witness the game. Old pro Jim-Joe Landers refereed matters and one of our elder statesmen Billy Allen, who is in a unique position as an ex-chairman of both clubs at one stage or another threw in the old laced leather football to get the game going and what excitement it turned out to be. The game itself was nip and tuck all the way with Clashmore racing into an early lead through points from the likes of Mark Coughlan but a goal by Tom O' Halloran for Kinsalebeg followed by two superb points by Gabriel Hynes in the second half ensured that this game ended all square on a scoreline of 1-2 for Kinsalebeg to Clashmore's 0-5 points so again the matter had to be decided on penalties and it was one of the oldest players on the pitch who had the final say as Roger O'Halloran scored the only penalty of the shoot-out placing the ball past keeper Peter Fitzgerald to win the laurels for Kinsalebeg so well done to Brendan Griffin, Eddie O'Halloran and their charges on a fantastic win which created great excitement for all ages.
It's hard to thank everyone individually when there were so many events going on across the weekend but I have to mention a few especially during our Legends Game, such as our piper Christy McCarthy, our Order of Malta officer Eddie MCarthy, Jim-Joe Landers for refereeing, Mattie Lynch who spent weeks gathering the two teams of past players and those dedicated individuals who were catching it all on camera for us. We have to especially mention those volunteers who were catering the BBQ, catering the tea and sandwiches, looking after the Club Shop and looking after the kids entertsinment, all whom didn't even get to see one game during the day so thank you for your dedication. We also want to thank all of our sponsors for the day who include The Butcher's Block, Dungarvan for supplying the BBQ food, and all four pubs in the parish who all contributed by either supplying refreshments for us at night or else snacks for the Sunday. Other than this we just have to say a huge thank you to everyone else who volunteered a hand over the weekend and we hope that everyone present enjoyed all the events and we are sure that the club will still be there in another 125 years to celebrate another one!
